Walking through the streets of the historical center of Acquasparta, after saw Federico Cesi’s Square and the Ducal palace, you can’t not continue the Via del Corso and arrive in front of two building that seems are look each other from centuries: the Municipal Palace and the beautiful Church of Santa Cecilia surmounted by a suggestive renaissmenet bell tower.

The Church of Santa Cecilia Patron of Acquasparta

The Church of Santa Cecilia is built above a medieval structure that is from the XI century: the actual Collegiata is the result of a rebuilding realized between the 1761 and 1763 in neoclassical style. 

Above the main altar, supported by two angels with trumpets, there is, upon the Acquasparta’s faithful, the coat of arms of Cesi’s family.

Eight chapels, seven altars and one sixteenth-century baptistery, characterize this church with the main altar in the center of the central apse dedicated to the patron of the city: Santa Cecilia.

The Tomb of Federico Cesi inside the Chapel of SS.MO Crucifix

The most suggestive rich place is the Chapel of SS.mo Crucifix where there are the sepolture of the families Liviani and Cesi.

Two tombstones were placed from Isabella Liviana Cesi in 1582, in the 74° year of her age.

Here, she was buried and, in the 1630, the Prince Federico II il Linceo, founder of the homonymous Academy (1603).
