Not so far from via Amerina that connects Amelia to Todi, Avigliano Umbro, a medieval hamlet on the top of San Rocco’s hill, conceals many and uniques attractions as the Foresta Fossile di Dunarobba (The Fossil Forest of Dunarobba), the ancient underground environment of Grotta Bella (Beautiful Cave) and last but not least, Fortezza Alta (High Fortress) and Sismano, two magnificent castles.

The Umbrians were the first ones to live in the settlements on the high ground – so called castellieri – unehearted on Castellieri mountain, between Amelia and Guardea and on Pianicel Grande mountain. Settlements dated between the seventh and sixth centuries BC.

Very interesting is the urban trekking inside (and outside) the historic center: a suitable walk for everyone who want to discover the most interesting sights in the perimeter of the ancient castle as the Torre dell’Orologio (Clock’s tower), the Teatro Liberty, the Palazzo Vici (Vici’s Palace) and the Chiesa della SS. Trinità.

There are several events that take place within the territory of Avigliano Umbro. It starts from the beginning of August and ends in the middle of the month the long Agosto Aviglianese (Avigliano’s August) which sees numerous events including the flagship one known in almost all of southern Umbria: la Sagra del Manfricolo typical plate of our territory that consist in a particular pasta, and the Osteria del Cicchio a music festival that, over the years, has hosted numerous folk and reggae artists, becoming an unmissable event in Umbria.
