Place to look at the Tevere Valley, surrounded by the green, in one of the most panoramic views of Alviano, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, is the most important religious place of the village.
We don’t have a certain data of the year of the construction of the building. Thanks to some historical documents, it was possible to discover that in that area, already in 1275, there was a college of canons.
In the sixteenth century it was rebuilded according to what the Lady of Alviano liked to.
Of XV century is the beautiful “Pala dell’Autunno”, an altarpiece that, in oring was a triptych whose lateral branches are preserves, today, togheter with two frescos representative San Giovanni battista and San Sebastiano in the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome.
Inside the church there are other important frescos, especially the work which represent Pantasilea Baglioni, widow of Bartolomeo of Alviano, surrounded by Saints and Madonna and realized in 1516 by Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis, called Pordenone, on commision of the same lady.

Patron of Alviano, the Assunta, is celebrated during the morning of August 15, with a solemn and suggestive procession that from Alviano Scalo, for 6 km, arrives at Alviano.
