The Church of Madonna dell’Annunziata between Santa Restituta and Toscolano

Also known as Santissima Annunziata was built around the aedicule that attracted pilgrims along the road that connected the castle of Santa Restituta to the one of  Toscolano.

The frescoes attributed to Pier Matteo d’Amelia

The small country church with a single nave has the particularity of preserving frescoes attributed to the Renaissance painter Pier Matteo d’Amelia that are placed in the architecture of an aedicule composed of:

  • on the front by an angel, in the center God represented as a dove and on the right the Virgin Annunciation;
  • at the bottom, above the altar, a Madonna enthroned with Child, Saints Rocco and Sebastian and the angels (with signs of pictorial intervention of eighteenth-century matrix);
  • in the vault the four Evangelists and in the center the blessing Eternal Father.

On the sides, on the walls eight Saints, including St. Francis, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Mary Magdalene, Holy Martyr, St. Anthony Abbot and St. Lucia.
