Built by the people of Avigliano Umbro for the particular dedication to what is the patron saint of the town, the Church of Sant’Egidio stands outside the walls of the Umbrian village.

The Church of Sant’Egidio, Patron Saint of Avigliano

The building, probably built between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries by the Benedictines, is placed on a rise on which rests a churchyard that anticipates the double sloping facade.

Austere and, for this very suggestive, the interior, with a single nave, houses at the bottom the apse with an interesting fresco of the second half of the 1500s with depicted:

Sant’Egidio abbot protector of the shepherds with the pastoral, a book and the arrow with which he was wounded, according to tradition, by the Goths instead of a deer;
to his left Saint Antony the Abbot, protector of animals and healer of the sick, with the traditional stick with the bell and the fire at his feet;
on the right Sant’Anna protector of pregnant women;
placed high the Redeemer with an angel at his side.
