The Public Fountain, called “Ace of Cups” stands just outside the walls of the old castle of Montecastrilli, in the center of a traffic circle.
The fountain was built in 1879 and placed in Piazza Umberto I to beautifying the square.
The purpose of the fountain was to distribute water to the population and, as proof of this, one can still see the three metal arms that served as supports for the vessels.
From the beginning of the last century to the present, the fountain was moved first to the present area — opposite what used to be the sanitary district, then to the public gardens, and then back to where it is today, where it greets us before entering the historic center.

In front of the fountain, stands the Torrione now owned by the Monastery of Santa Chiara and once the castle’s main sighting and defense system.
