Along the via Casventino you cross Palazzo Vecchio square which, in addition to the homonymous wonderful palace hosts what in origin must to was a little public loggia which has inside a shrine with a venerated icon of the Virgin and today is known like the Church of San Carlo.
During the years the arches of the loggia were rear-ended and the two doors architrave and already at the beginning of 1400 was a church with only one aisle with a longitudinal axis which, for this reason, follows even today the axis of the street.
During the centuries the church has changed the name different times, from Santa Maria de Cicerchiis, to Santa Maria de Incertis, for takes the actually name of Church of San Carlo, to remember when the same saint, Carlo Borromeo in the XVI century celebrated a mass there.

Inside of the church there is a ciborium which, above the central altar, protects the precious fresco which represents the Madonna in Trionfo between Saints and Musicians Angels.
In the below layers other frescos more ancient: San Bernardino, Sant’Antonio Abate, San Giorgio dated from XIV to XV century.
On the left wall a niche with the fresco of a Madonna con Bambino between Santo Stefano and San Sebastiano and in the intrados the figures of Sant’Antonio and San Vincenzo Ferrer.
Outside of the church, if you didn’t before, it is worth visiting Palazzo Vecchio.
