The Church of San Lorenzo in Nifili is placed in the rolling hills that surround Montecastrilli and set on a rise along the road to Farnetta.
Built between the 10th and 11th centuries on an old Roman temple-situated at a site along a diverticulum of the Via Amerina that connected Rome with Amelia, Todi and the north of the peninsula-it became important in the early Middle Ages.
The church’s style is Romanesque and is characterized by a single nave with a barrel vault and semicircular apse where traces of frescoes can be seen. The façade is double-sloped and built with blocks of limestone and some reused materials from the temple and a possible necropolis nearby that have valuable decorations. The portal, with a round arch, is surmounted by a mullioned window.
The interior is preceded by an atrium and a doorway surmounted by a round arch.
The chancel, slightly raised, holds a cippus altar with an inscription dating to the year 1,000 and a semicircular apse over which a lancet window opens.
The interior wall, opposite the altar, has 15th-century frescoes, today still in good condition, depicting St. Lawrence and the Good Shepherd.

On August 10th, the traditional Feast of St. Lawrence is really interesting and evocative. It start in the afternoon with the celebration of Holy Mass followed by accompanying activities until evening when it is possible to lie on the grass and watch the shooting stars.
