The Parish Church of San Vittorina, today unfortunately decked for future renovation and visitable only from the outside, is located in the countryside along a diverticulum of the Via Amerina.

History of the Parish Church and parishes of San Vittorina

It was one of the most important spiritual places in the Tuderte territory and was probably built in the early Middle Ages – given a monolithic travertine stone that bears carved a horse surmounted by a cross and the epigraph ad honorem beate martyris datable VII-VIII century, today no longer in site.

It had great importance when, in the thirteenth century, Todi divided the territory into 19 parishes and the collegiate church of San Vittorina – unique with a baptismal font – became the reference point of over 4000 people who lived in the villas and castles around, including the same of Avigliano Umbro, Montecastrilli and Collesecco.

Around the seventeenth century, due to the loss of importance, the parish was transferred to the Church of St. John of Dunarobba.

What remains of the complex

Its current shape is linked to the canons of the late Romanesque:  the rectangular plan is built with square stone of varying size white and pink.

On the back there we find remains of a thirteenth-century tower, used in a first moment as a control tower to defend the church, then as a bell tower. It was remodeled several times and today appears in the form assumed around the fifteenth century when a bell tower was probably added to it.

Inside there was a beautiful holy water stoup in pink granite (unfortunately now disappeared) and the remains of a fresco of the sixteenth century depicting a “Holy Bishop”.

Placed safely waiting for a future restoration, today it depicts only the shadow of what it once was.
