ST. James and St. Mark’s Church was built simultaneously with the Castle in 1294, but today it has the appearance of the many renovations it has undergone over the past century.
The Church is located up a long flight of steps, with a stone-paved churchyard in front, and it is the parish church of Castel dell’Aquila.
The huge bulk of the bell tower, a neo-Gothic style inspired by the Church of St. Francis (link to PDI) in Terni, dominates the structure and the valley.

The interior of the building has a single plastered nave with four arched niches on each side.
Of interest is the painting on the high altar, attributed to Todi painter Pietro Paolo Sensini, which depicts St. James with a shell and pilgrim’s clothes.
On July 25, during the feast dedicated to him, the sacred relics of the saint are displayed.
