Just outside the walls of the Castle of Sismano, we can admire the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
The small church stands just outside the door of the village, in a small and well-kept green area.
The system consists of a single room, plastered, painted and then covered with pitches supported by wooden beams. The apse consists of a lowered barrel vault, while the main altar houses an ancient fresco.
The external walls are plastered and the facade is enriched by classic devotional systems such as a portal with a stucco frame, next to which there are two low windows and a rectangular hole to dominate the composition.
Based on the poor documentation that tells us the story of this small country church, we can venture the hypothesis that, initially, it was simply an aedicule that, over the decades and thanks to the intervention of parish priests and bishops, has become its own a real church.
And of 1597 the document that, in fact, tells the decision taken by the Bishop of Todi, Bishop Angelo Cesi, regarding this small building. We know that it was he who decreed and ordered not only the restoration of the chapel, but also the construction of a wall in the front, so as to be able to give it the dignified shape of a real Church.
It was completely restored in the eighties of the last century, after a work of paving dated 1945.
