Located in the heart of the historic center, Teatro San Giovanni is one of the oldest buildings in Montecastrilli.
From documents kept in the parish, a Confraternity of St. John the Baptist is attested as early as 1574 with the possession, among other assets, of a small church and a hospice.
In its administration, the Confraternity was also supported by an Augustinian Father who, on special occasions, resided in some rooms above the church itself.
The building remembered from the parish records was the Church of St. John the Baptist from the transformation of which, in the 1940s, a theater and movie theater was built.

The building remembered from the parish records was the Church of St. John the Baptist from the transformation of which, in the 1940s, a theater and movie theater was built.
The transformation also included the extension on the right side of the facade, the construction of a stage under which two dressing rooms were made, and some structural works functional for the new use.
The original facade of the church remained incorporated and visible in the present facade of the theater, including the cross and plaque that identified its sacred nature.
Inside was a remarkably well-made canvas by the painter Rutilius Spoltus, signed and dated 1612, depicting the Baptism of St. John the Baptist, a work that is now in the Church of San Nicolò, in the first chapel on the right as you enter from the main entrance.
